Email: ackaasa@gmail.com

Prior to founding Eclipse Select MN, Andy, was a Director for Minnesota Thunder Academy.  While serving in the role he coached teams who won multiple USYSA State Championships, US Club Region Titles, USYS Semi-Finalist, USYS Region Championship, ECNL North American League Finalists, as well as various major club tournaments.  Andy has coached multiple High School state players of the year, All-Americans, and players who have participated in US Soccer, US Club id2, and ODP National Team camps.

Andy has a double major from the University of St. Thomas in International Business and Spanish.  His business background led him to create and operate Minnesota's first US Club League.  Andy's coaching certificates include NSCAA Premier Diploma, NSCAA National Youth Diploma and USSF "C" License.  In addition, he has served as a National Camp Staff coach for US Club Soccer id2.

Andy was the Assistant Coach for the University of St. Thomas Women from 2009-2011 and in 2009 UST was an NCAA tournament participant.

His Mission
"It is my mission to create a cuture of excellence where players and coaches thrive at their highest level both on the field and in life.  Creating an environment where players are allowed to become their best by competing with and against players & coaches who both push and support them while enjoying the experience.  To achieve this goal it is crucial to focus on developing the person first.  If you develop the person, then whatever they are passionate about will thrive."

Tay Vang
Phone: 651-775-9765
Email: techdirectoreclipsemn@gmail.com

Tay grew up in France and played for E.S. Moulon at the regional elite level.  Since then, Tay has become one of the best technical trainers in the United States for player development.  Tay has used this experience to allow him to develop and impact the lives of many youth players.  Players he has trained have gone on to reach Regional and National ODP, US Club id2, US National Teams, and NCAA Division I, II, and III.

Tay founded St. Paul United Soccer Club in 2005 and served as the club President and Director of Coaching until 2013.  Tay spent two seasons with Minnesota Thunder Academy prior to joining Eclipse Select MN's first ever staff in 2016.

His Vision
"At the end of each year I'm not counting how many trophies or tournaments I have won during the season, but how many individuals I have helped reach the next level.  Those players are my trophies."

Meng Lee
Phone: 651-592-1402
Email: kongmenglee@msn.com

Meng went to the University of Colorado-Boulder where he completed his Bachelors degree in Sociology.  Meng was also a part of the Men's club soccer team while attending Boulder.

He has experience coaching and training multiple teams and levels with boys and girls.  Meng holds his USSF "E" License and Youth Module Certification.

His Take
"Relationships and trust is essential to successfully achieve a goal.  Style of play should be built based on player strengths and abilities rather than the one way a coach sees the game.  There is no right way or wrong way as long as the objective is met and trusting the players."

Steve Banks
Phone: 612-281-3937
Email: stevecbanks@gmail.com

Steve grew up in Winnipeg, Canada and played soccer through his senior year, before switching to rugby and beach volleyball.  He has been coaching soccer for over 6 years, first at Valley United and now Eclipse Select MN, including a second place finish in the State Tournament.  Steve currently holds his USSF "E" License.

His Values
"Building a team of players, instead of just a group of individuals, is critical to success, both on and off the field.  Having a band of brothers that support you, celebrate your successes, and hold your accountable for your efforts is important in soccer, and in life."

Trey Benhart
Trey played at Shattuck-St. Marys for 3 years and went on to be a 4 year starting center back at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. His senior year he was the team captain.  His  degree is in Elementary Education, and while at Green Bay he was a member of SAAC (student athlete advisory committee).

Maddie Gaffney
Email: mgeclipsemn@gmail.com

My name is Maddie Gaffney and I am so excited to be a part of the up and coming Eclipse Select Soccer Club. I just graduated from The University of Minnesota with a Kinesiology major and I cannot wait to use all that I have learned through my major, my four years of collegiate soccer, and youth soccer to help all the girls and boys of this club grow as people and as soccer players.

My soccer career began as a Purple Princess. I was five years old and my dad had to carry me around the field when he subbed me off in order to have me feel like I was still in the game and playing. You couldn’t separate me from the game, even at just five years old. The rest is history. My first traveling and competitive experience began at Woodbury, which turned into Bangu Tsunami, then into Minnesota Thunder Academy.  Andy Kaasa, now director of this club, was my most impactful coach, who invested, and developed me in my youth, helping to set me up for success at the University of Minnesota as a Golden Gopher. Having such a positive youth career, made it easy for me to get into coaching, and wanting to give the youth players a similar experience to my own.

As a Golden Gopher, I played in 75 total games, and started in 64 of those. During my career I was named Most Improved Player and to the All-Big Ten Third team. I was also fortunate enough to be a part of and help the team win both Big Ten titles my junior season, and make two appearances in the NCAA tournament.

Throughout my youth and collegiate career, soccer has given me so much more than just a couple of awards and championships. It brought me life long friends, the ability to withstand and surpass adversity on and off the field, while engraving values of work ethic, grit, perseverance, sacrifice, competitiveness, and teamwork into me. It has developed me into the person I am today.
